Profiling, Discrimination, or just Plain Common Sense?

Discrimination

I’m sorry, but the above photo is ridiculous.  You have every right in the world to be concerned for your children’s safety when a man dressed like a gangster walks in the room.  You could place a Buddhist Monks robe on this guy, it doesn’t change the fact that he is capable of both great good and great evil.  The Nazi’s employed thousands of doctors to conduct experiments on prisoners; I wouldn’t want to be alone in room with any of them either.   “HE” is making the statement about who is by how he chooses to present himself.  And we have every right to treat him accordingly.  Your ancestors wouldn’t have survived long…

Fat ass moms, fat ass kids, and children of the government

I Want To Be The Fattest Woman In The World

I have to admit that I am a little unsure of exactly where I stand on this issue. I am not a great supporter of big government, especially when that government intrudes on the private lives of its citizens. I believe the government’s sole duty is to protect the rights of the people, and without a doubt, our government seems to have forgotten its place. Ultimately, this is exactly why I am “up in the air” on this issue. Let me begin with this analogy. If a morbidly obese woman who swallows Big Macs like Tic Tacs shovels food down the throat of her kids at the same rate she heaves food into her own…

What the hell happened to all the atheists?

Empty Street

In case you haven’t noticed, this site, like many others, has nearly drifted into non-existence. Luckily, we have a great friend to keep it going while we work out our hectic lives. Thank you, David. Quick update. I am working toward an M.A. while being a T.A. Add the whole single dad thing to that, and I have quite the load. Brian has been pretty busy himself. Recently, he opened his own business–one which will go nameless until I know if he is comfortable saying what it is on this site. Atheism, however, is alive and well. Every day, I am still amazed at the ridiculous frame of mind in the Bible Belt. I’m not…

What Made Me an Atheist? Nothing at all.

nothing

Editors Note:  This was article previously posted on Atheist Connect back in June of 2011.  We thought you might enjoy a second look. Previously posted on Project-Reason.org and Truthsaves.com Re-posted with author’s permission Joe (www.truth-saves.com administrator) recently posted a blog featuring Adam Corolla talking about his atheism, and it got me to listening to some of his other comments on the subject. On one of his radio shows, Adam stated that he is often asked “What made you an atheist?” I have also been asked this question many times over the years, and Adam’s response really got me thinking. As America is the most religious industrialized nation in the world, it seems that most Atheists…

The Bible and the Christmas Tree

antiChristmasTree

Since it ‘Tis the Season I thought I would bring out an old favorite bible verse regarding the decorating of trees for celebratory reasons. So everyone please get out your Bible’s and turn to Jeremiah 10 versus 1-5, which says: Jeremiah 10 (KJV) Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it…

Farewell, Christopher Hitchens

hitchens featured

Today, we lost one of the greats. Christopher Hitchens passed away after a long battle with cancer. The natural world can be an incredibly sad place–robbing us of life far before “our time.” We do not know what the Christian World will think. Will they be happy, indifferent, critical? None of it really matters. Only one thing is certain–is what we have done enough? Will we continue to live through our work? Woody Allen said, “I don’t want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying.” If only it were possible, but for now, we must be content with what we leave behind. Christopher Eric Hitchens was born in…

Top 10 Reasons to be an Atheist Nation

cross_and_flag_xlarge

One of the most basic and fundamental claims of religions is that they are the source for moral and ethical behavior in our society. They further claim that any society without religion will disintegrate into a murderous anarchy filled with roving bands of sodomizing rapists. In fact, it is hard to find a single negative human behavior that the religious won’t blame on atheism. But is this true? Are societies that embrace religious beliefs better off than those societies that do not? Fortunately, we have lots and lots of data regarding the factors that relate to societal health at the level of nations. It should come as no surprise to anyone, that once again, the…

We’re off to see the Wizard…

the wizard of oz

Many of the ‘kids’ movies that have been written actually contain alot more than meets the eye.  Take the wonderful movie, The Wizard of Oz.  Here is a classic tale of a young girl who is magically transported to another world or realm.  There she meets a variety of people who are essential parts of her journey.  She has many questions and is instructed to seek ‘The All-Powerful Wizard’ in the emerald city.  All she has to do is ‘follow the yellow brick road’. As Dorthy sets out on her journey, she faces challenges and difficulties.  The wicked witch of the west, flying monkeys, and even the wizard bring fear to the traveling band.  Upon…

Black Christians: “Don’t Compare Us!”

Members of a Catholic fraternal service organization, the Knights of Columbus, arrive at a football stadium in San Diego

How quickly we forget. It seems American memory can be measured in nanoseconds. African-American Christians in America want to remind us that homosexuals do not have the right to claim their “agenda” as a civil rights movement. Three black callers on The Matt Friedeman Show this morning made it very clear that African-Americans had to fight great injustices that homosexuals do not face. The first of the three, a woman from Houston, Texas, claimed she had no choice in being black, but homosexuals do have a choice. It’s an attitude we see all to often in American culture–my fight is just; your fight is not. Bryan Fischer, Grand Wizard of the AFA, made a claim just last week…

SPORTS – A NEW RELIGION

empty church

SPORTS – A NEW RELIGION by Mike Lee I grew up hearing that in polite society- there’s always two things you don’t bring up in conversation; politics and religion. Evidently, it’s better to discuss what Britney Spears wore to the Video Music Awards or pander on about the weather, rather than discus anything that might be “controversial” or “politically incorrect.” Why is it that? Isn’t discussing current events and our government leaders more important than rambling on about pop culture? Isn’t discussing religions impact on our society and its global consequences more important than whether the new Adam Sandler movie was funny? Which brings me to the topic of sports – and its ultimate…
